If youre a single mom, theres not a lot of time to pay mind to the feeling that youre getting frumpy, says Eileen, who works two jobs and has three kids all in their early 20s. I always put myself last, she adds. But something about her fiftieth birthday last August kicked her desire to do something about her skin issues into high gear. I wanted to start the second half of my life as a new woman, she says. Mostly happy with her hair, which had maintained its thickness and color, Eileen was frustrated by the changes to her faceage spots, droopy jowls, disappearing eyebrows and little lines around her mouth. To help her look and feel seven years younger, the experts gave her these mini-makeovers:
- An Instant Face Lift: Eileen was sensitive to the sagging skin around her jawline, and her hair was too long and overgrown, and the heaviness and lack of movement was dragging all of her facial features down, says hairstylist Nunzio Saviano, of Nunzio Saviano Salon. So he gave Eileen a shoulder-skimming cut and added layers, which revealed her face.
- Cheeks That Pop: Makeup artist Sue Pike applied blush on the apples of Eileens cheeks, then brushed taupe eyeshadow (yes, eyeshadow!) underneath her cheekbones, blending it up with her fingers. This simple contouring trick (you can also use bronzer) subtracted years.
Eileens Reaction: Because she barely had any gray, Eileen rarely dyed her hair, and when she did, she went all one color that was true to her roots. Thats why the rich chocolate basewith bright caramel highlightswas a boost she never even expected. Its amazing! My hair is so bouncy, and oh my God, I love the color!
The Tip Shell Take With Her: While she used to simply pencil in her thinning brows, now she knows that you need to powder over them too. That way they look natural, and not as severe.
